TENNESSEE (WCYB) — 11 have now been confirmed dead in East Tennessee after the Helene flooding and 23 people are still considered missing, according to TEMA. In TEMA's Flash Report, they said that two are dead in Cocke County, one in Greene County, one in Knox County, one in Johnson County, four in Unicoi County, and two in Washington County.

WAVERLY, Tenn. (WSMV) - Helene caused extreme flooding in East Tennessee. Some think it could take weeks to recover, but officials emphasized recovery could take years. It’s something people impacted by the Waverly floods know all too well as some are still rebuilding, three years later.

Helene was not just generational, but millennial. The Nolichucky River watershed had more than a 5,000-year rainfall with Helene, TVA said.

TVA's system of dams along the Tennessee River and its tributaries has been tested by record flooding from Hurricane Helene, which drenched Western North Carolina and East Tennessee as a tropical storm , washing out interstate lanes and trapping residents as small streams in the Great Smoky Mountains suddenly became raging rivers.

Organized by the East Tennessee Foundation, the Neighbor to Neighbor Disaster Relief Fund "provides timely disaster grants to nonprofit organizations in our 25-county region in East Tennessee."

The eastbound and westbound Interstate 26 bridges near mile marker 40 in Unicoi County collapsed Friday during peak Hurricane Helene flooding.
