Broadway stars remember Gavin Creel after his death of a rare cancer. Bette Midler, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Andrew Rannells and Idina Menzel shared tributes.

Creel played Steven Kodaly in the 2016 production of "She Loves Me" at Studio 54. The following season, Creel was tapped for the role of Cornelius Hackl, opposite legends Midler and David Hyde Pierce, in the smash 2017 revival of "Hello, Dolly!" directed by Jerry Zaks, winning the Tony for best featured actor in a musical.

The New York Times reports that his death was caused by a metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma, a type of nerve cancer which the actor learned he had in July. His death was confirmed by his partner, Alex Temple Ward, via publicist Matt Polk.
