Sadness has been expressed that Southsea is set to lose its last bank after Lloyds announced that it would be closing its branch in that area of the city.

Lloyds Banking Group will shut 136 branches in the United Kingdom to match customers' transition to digital banking but will not cut jobs, the lender said on Wednesday.

The closures announced by Lloyds Banking Group will include 61 Lloyds branches, 61 Halifax branches, and 14 Bank of Scotland branches, with the shutdowns scheduled between May 2025 and March 2026.

Another bank will shut in Nottinghamshire after Lloyds announced the closure of 61 of its branches. The bank's branch on High Street, Hucknall, is set to close next year amid what is says has been a significant decline in counter transactions.

Among the Greater Manchester branches affected are the Lloyds in Farnworth, Bolton, which will close in May. The Halifax in Walkden, Salford, will be next to close in September, followed by Lloyds in Bury and Halifax in Bolton during the autumn. The Lloyds bank in Manchester Moston is then set to close next year.
