On New Year’s Day, the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office reports that a custody deputy was assaulted when inside an inmate’s cell at the Syracuse Justice Center. The sheriff’s office said that the deputy had entered a cell to remove the trash when 24-year-old Nyitaire Nelson unexpectedly attacked the deputy.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday defended deputies detaining and handcuffing an11-year-old girl for more than six minutes on a snowy Syracuse street on Monday. Deputies were looking for a girl spotted in a stolen car Monday when they stopped the 11-year-old who they felt matched the description of the girl they were looking for.
