Police chiefs condemned the attacks on police and other emergency services as “wholly unacceptable”. But they said the number of incidents was down on last year. And they said an increase in intelligence from the public had allowed them to prevent some crimes taking place.

Incidents of serious disorder on Bonfire Night have fallen across Scotland, according to police figures. Police Scotland said they responded to 18 incidents on Tuesday evening as part of Operation Moonbeam, compared with 26 during the same period in 2023.

The force warned those suspected of planning firework-related anti-social behaviour in the Gracemount, Moredun and Niddrie areas would be searched after receiving “intelligence” of potential trouble.
