The Texas is the only battleship still in existence that served in both World Wars. For decades, it sat in the Houston Ship Channel near San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site as a museum. Over the years, though, the ship fell into disrepair, with leaks threatening to sink her altogether if something wasn’t done.

The Galveston Wharves Board of Trustees will meet Monday to discuss potential resolutions to finding a future home for Battleship Texas. Discussions between representatives from the Port of Galveston and the Battleship Foundation previously broke down in October,

The warship was located for nearly three-quarters of a century at the San Jacinto Battleground State Historical Site, across from the San Jacinto Monument. It was dry docked in 2022 while undergoing $60 million in repairs.

Discussions are expected to resume on where the historic Battleship Texas new home will be. This comes after the Galveston Wharves Board of Trustees announced a special meeting Monday, just weeks after suspending the year-long negotiations with the ship's foundation.
