Chicago Blackhawks left wing Taylor Hall said he was "surprised" to be a healthy scratch on Saturday, saying coach Luke Richardson had given him no prior indication it was even a possibility.

The Chicago Blackhawks took on the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. The game was noteworthy as it marked the first time Connor Bedard played in his hometown as an NHL player. However, it also caught headlines as the Blackhawks surprisingly benched Taylor Hall.

Taylor Hall's remarks to the media made it clear that the Chicago Blackhawks could not have handled scratching him from the lineup much worse.

Taylor Hall said he and Chicago Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson are on the same page after the 33-year-old forward was caught off guard being a healthy scratch in a 4-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.

As per a report by Charlie Roumeliotis, Taylor Hall did not see his being pulled from the lineup coming. Roumeliotis tweeted, “Taylor Hall was caught off guard by Saturday’s healthy scratch: “I was surprised by it.
