The student information system used by every public school in the state fell victim to a data breach that may have put Alabama students’ medical and grade information at risk, according to the state Department of Education.

Area school districts might have been impacted by the cyberattack of a nationwide education software cloud-based platform called PowerSchool, used to store sensitive student data.

The data breach involved PowerSchool, a student information system provider for several school districts. On December 28th, 2024, PowerSchool found unauthorized access to data through its customer support portal.
