Durham, Johnston, and Wake County schools have submitted a proposal to the NCHSAA asking the board to sanction girls flag football, which would make it an official high school sport in North Carolina.
When the sport was first sanctioned by the AHSAA in 2021, Vestavia Hills had 30 girls try out for the team. That number was doubled this fall.
