The New York Rangers’ decision to claim Arthur Kaliyev off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings paid immediate dividends. The 23-year-old winger debuted Thursday night in a 3–2 overtime win against the New Jersey Devils at Madison Square Garden with the Rangers coming off a loss to the Dallas Stars on Wednesday.

And it continued before Thursday night’s resumption of hostilities at the Garden against the Devils, as Peter Laviolette reconstructed his lineup once again.

The New York Rangers made a low-risk, high-reward type of move to claim Arthur Kaliyev off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday. At this point of the season, it’s rare to see the Rangers pick up another player, but the prospect of adding a young forward the likes of Kaliyev was too good for Chris Drury and Peter Laviolette to pass on.
