Rescuers in Nepal have recovered dozens of bodies from buses and other vehicles that were buried in landslides near the capital Kathmandu as the death toll from flooding rose to at least 148 with dozens missing.

Nepal began on Monday to grapple with damage wrought by deadly floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains as residents faced the daunting task of cleaning homes and extracting their broken belongings from mud.

Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli reported that ongoing floods and landslides have resulted in 224 fatalities and over 4,000 rescues. The government has deployed extensive rescue operations involving the Nepal Army and private choppers,
