CVS Health Corp.’s stock rose 2.6% Monday after a report surfaced of a meeting between the health-care company and its major hedge-fund investor, Glenview Capital Management. CVS’s stock rose $1.65 to $63.

A major investor is reportedly meeting with CVS executives today amid growing impatience with the company's financial performance.

About 2,900 jobs will be eliminated — less than 1% of the company's total global workforce — and most of the affected jobs are in corporate roles. Front-line jobs in stores, pharmacies, and distribution centers won't be affected, CVS said Monday, while adding that most affected employees will be notified this week.

CVS Health, parent company of Hartford health insurer Aetna, told employees Monday it will cut 1% of its workforce, or about 2,900 employees.  The job cuts will mostly impact corporate jobs, according to the Wall Street Journal,

The drugstore chain has struggled in recent years with rising prescription drug costs and dollar store competition. CVS plans to lay off 2,900 workers, the company announced this week. The move comes as the pharmacy has been struggling with costs in a tough economy,
