The Laken Riley Act, named for a Georgia nursing student killed by an illegal immigrant, is heading to the Senate as the GOP prioritizes border security.

Acton filed paperwork and launched her campaign Tuesday. She plans to run as a Democrat, which places her at an immediate disadvantage in a state that has turned solidly red in recent years.

Both of New Hampshire's representatives in Congress broke with the Democrats to vote in favor of a new immigration bill.
