Boeing will lay off more than 2,200 workers in the U.S. states of Washington and Oregon, according to filings posted on Monday, as part of the debt-heavy U.S. planemaker's plan to cut 17,000 jobs, or 10% of its global workforce.

Boeing has laid off 2,199 workers in Washington, according to a notice filed Monday with the state's Employment Security Department.

As the holiday season arrives, and people begin wrapping presents in red, green, and gold paper, Boeing is sending pink slips to some of its employees, including 2,199 in Washington state.

Boeing is laying off nearly 2,200 workers in Washington State, a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) showed on Monday. The layoffs are a part of a 10% job cut that the planemaker had announced in October,
